What was actually on the menu at the Star Wars Cantina...

I just wanted to share pics of the food I made assembled for our Star Wars event at the library last Saturday!
This was our Darth Vader pinata. The girl who won the Wii lightsaber duel (you read that right...she KICKED BUTT) got to smash Vader's head with a lightsaber. Candy was enjoyed by all.

Yes, our ice machine does have a picture of Vanilla Ice on it. You can thank my boss for that bit of cleverness.

This was probably my favorite. I used chocolate teddy grahams (for Ewoks), Captain Crunch cereal, Raisinettes, and coconut M&M's (they were the only green ones I could find, even though I searched high and low for mint flavored ones!).

I regret nothing.

This was just watermelon juice and Sprite. Btw, do you know how hard it is to find green juice that isn't either vegetables or Kool-Aid? HARD.

Because we needed something to balance out all the sugar.

See? The Oreos have a dark and a light side...like the force! Ahh??

Just animal crackers.

Couldn't come up with a better name for this...

And finally...

...the dress!

It was an awesome day. One of those ones where I'm like, "I can't believe I get paid to do this." It was a lot of work, and I was exhausted, but it was totally worth it.

Now, tomorrow, I get to do our 3rd Annual Princess Tea Party, complete with 200 little girls in princess attire and a menu completely consisting of various forms of sugar. This will be interesting...

"I can show you that when it starts to rain, everything's the same."

Once again, a conflict has arisen between myself and my mother, today regarding my outfit of choice.

This morning, Mom and I decided to go garage sale-ing, and it was wet and rainy, so I decided to wear my rain boots (practical, right?). And the only way to wear rain boots is either with pants or leggings/skirt/dress. Well, part of the downside of being only slightly over 5 feet tall is the fact that your pants ALWAYS drag on the floor. It being wet outside, I didn't want sopping, muddy hems, so I opted for a skirt and leggings. Then I added my raincoat, and a hat because I didn't feel like bothering with my hair.

Also: GARAGE SALES. Who am I dressing up for anyway??

My clothes:

Well, about halfway through our expedition my mom goes, "Well, that's a colorful little suit you have on today, Mary." And then it's like she couldn't let it go.

Things My Mom Said To Describe My Outfit:
-that it looked like I had a dish rag/pillow case on my head
-I went into my closet and wore ALL THE THINGS (my mom DOES read Hyperbole and a Half. WINNING)

-it's no wonder old people think I'm cute, because it looks like I raided their wardrobes
-this face:

What My Dad Said To Describe My Outfit:
"The top half looks like eastern, Russian orthodox, and the bottom half looks very British mod."

What Bixby Said To Describe My Outfit:
"Snuffle snuffle snort lick." Which means, "Oh Mary! You look beautiful!"

The opinions of my dog and dad aren't really important because they're kind of neutral (Bixby ALWAYS takes my side, so it's not fair to take his thoughts into account). So here's the question:

With whom do you agree: me or my mom?

Yay! So I haven't done an outfit post in FOREVER (actually, I think I've only done like, two. Ever. Hooray for not having proper photography equipment!), but I really like this blazer and thought I'd share!

(Blazer and necklace: F21; Striped shirt: H&M; Shorts: Lucky Brand via Plato's; Shoes: Target; Ring: Plato's)

I really love blazers for fall. Even though they look quasi-I'm-trying-to-be-a-preppy-professional-slash-prep-school-student. I just think they pull everything together nicely and when paired with denim can be casual enough. I mostly love the color of this one. It's like a soft lavendar-gray. FTW.

Accessory details:

That is the craziest effing ring. But it was $2 and I was like, "maybe I need some bling in my life." Also, the pegasus is cool. Partly because it's kind of my school's mascot but mostly because flying horses are THE SHIZZ.

Thanks for indulging my attention-whoring vanity!
(Honestly, that's the reason I do so few of these. Because who the eff actually cares what I wear on a day to day basis. I just don't like being so needy for attention...in public.)

Happy Easter!

Because I can't get enough Victorian artwork in my life.

Credit. Also, I wanted to do this with Sherman, but couldn't determine the best way to make little bunny ears and a fluffy tail stay on.

I love Fabergé eggs, but this one I particularly like. It's called "The Memory of Azov," made in 1891. The egg is made of Bloodstone, one of my birth stones, and the ship is set on a small cut of Aquamarine, my other birth stone. Plus, it's got a tiny ship. I think it's amazing.

And now on to pics of my own. Here's what I wore to mass this morning.

Dress: Charlotte Russe; Shrug: Wet Seal; Bracelet: gift.

I did a post a while back on literary fashion, and I think this outfit fits in perfectly with my Pride and Prejudice motif. I love the fabric because it's flowy and I like the crocheted lacy detailing. :)

After church, my family and I went to breakfast. Then I came home and took a much-needed nap (which is probably why I look so tired in all these pics) before the extended family came over. Everyone ended up showing up. My mom made a really tasty ham and everyone brought over sides and deserts.

My neighbor made these DELICIOUS cupcakes. They were white cake topped with glazed cherries and powedered sugar. Delish (and pretty!)

My Mom's amazingly scrumptious deviled eggs. This is the only way I'll eat eggs at all.

Easter Lilly, courtesy of Meagan, who is awesome and about whom I am planning a MAJOR blog post sometime this week as time allows.

This is an antique painting my Mom scored at her thrift store when it was still open. We've since seen it in antique shops selling for WAY MORE than the $2 she paid for it. I love it, and it's very Eastery. It hangs in the formal dining room.

One of the tables we set for when the family came over.

What we wore. Mary: Dress= American Eagle (via Plato's), Necklace= also AE. Emily: Shirt= Charlotte Russe, Jeans and flats= Old Navy.

Me and my cousins April and Emily.

Overall, it was really nice. My cousins and I ate by the pool and had a riotous good time laughing. Plus, it's just nice to have all the family over every once and a while. I hope you all had a lovely and blessed Easter!

Jasper Says Relax (3/1/10).

This one is specifically for Meagan. <3

{Shirt: Cafepress, Jeans: F21 (via Plato's Closet), Blazer: thrifted, Hat: F21, Necklace: American Eagle, Watch: WalMart (no joke...) }

Outfit Post 2/6

Tutu shirt: Target, Jeans: F21 (via Plato's Closet), Shoes: Converse, Jacket & Purse: thrifted, Necklace: American Eagle

(Sorry for the blurry pic! Out of a set of about 15, only ONE turned out clearly! Still figuring out the whole self-portraiture thing.)

I loved this jacket when I saw it for a number of reasons. It has the classic Chanel tweed/Jackie O. look. It has turquoise satin lining. And it has STUDS. Every time I wear it someone compliments the studs. Definitely the selling point for me.

I also really like this bag. It was one of the best thrift buys ever. It's made of really cheap material, but it's SO comfy and holds everything. It's also metallic blue, thus making it awesome.

Great kid! Don't get cocky.

(I can't believe this is my first outfit post. I will look back on this one day and go, "What on earth was I thinking?" But that's half the fun, isn't it?)

Jeans: F21 (via Plato's Closet); Shirt: Target; Vest, belt: thrifted; Boots: Ross

(The sun shone through the window for about four seconds, and one of them happened to be when the pic was taken! Shiny.)

So, as you can probably gather, I've been on a Star Wars kick lately. And for those of you who share my geekery, you can probably gather that this outfit is based on everyone's favorite badass, Han Solo. Something I love to do when getting dressed is take my inspiration from different and random places--movies, books, TV shows, characters, stories, historical figures, music, magazine ads, colors, objects...I find inspiration in the weirdest places. While this one is pretty obvious, I try to integrate little pieces of my various inspirations and make it wearable. I have to keep myself in check so I don't get too costumey (for example, I LOVE Marie Antoinette, and it's SO HARD to keep her style wearable for day-to-day business!). Anyway, expect more of this. And if YOU have anything you'd like to see me do, let me know! I'm always up for a fashion challenge. :)
